"Hey there FANS… Hope you are all doing well and enjoying your new year! My new year has started off in an amazing way, and partly because of this very exciting announcement that I have for you all.
I have brought on an additional guitar player and I think that a lot of you may know him. I am so excited to welcome Mike Hill (formally of Whiskey Basin) to the band! I’m so fortunate and so blessed to be able to have Mike join our band family. I have been courting him for months now but the timing was never right until now. If you have never heard Mike rip up a guitar solo, then you are missing out! Mike brings with him a plethora of musical knowledge, skill and a great fan base of his own. So let me also say to the new fans, WELCOME and THANK YOU for your continued support! Having Mike join us means that I now have one hell of a bad ass band! Mike… thank you so much for choosing me. I know that there are plenty of projects you could have taken on. I’m thrilled to have you and look forward to making beautiful music together for a long, long time.
In addition to Mike playing lead electric guitar, he will also be singing backup harmonies. After hiring my new female backup singer Tiffany a few months ago, this now means we have THREE PART VOCAL HARMONY! Tiffany is beautiful and an amazingly talented singer. That girl can hit notes that will make you want to smack your momma! Kevan, our band manager and my guitar player for over two years, is still playing guitar and will now also be playing acoustic guitar and mandolin! Tim Pope, my kick butt drummer who has been with me for just over a year, is still banging on the drums behind me. Tim is a character, and if you have never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, come say hi at the next show you attend. He loves hanging with the fans and is truly a super nice guy and a great friend to me. We have recently added a new 6 string advanced bass player to the mix also. I think Doobie has been playing bass since he was born, and is absolutely amazing. He has taken on the role of our music director and is helping us make music like we have never made before. I’ve also brought on a new keys player! Warren is unbelievable and is one of the most gifted keys players I have ever met.
Just as Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life, so is this band. As far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t get any better then these guys. I am the luckiest country singer in the world! Their loyalty and commitment to me and to this dream we are living is just unheard of. This is our year… you mark my words. I hope you will all come out and support us at as many shows as you can. I’m so blessed to have fans and friends that come to shows, buy my music and send fan mail. For those of you who buy beer koozies and show up wearing your April Phillips t-shirts… I see you… I know you’re there… and I am so grateful for you all."

Battle with Cancer “You guys (Whiskey Basin) changed my life making it brighter in so many ways. You are like a second family to me and I love you all. Thanks for all your prayers and inspiring music. I’d like to share my story with all your fans.”

“For those of you who don’t know me from the shows my name is Susan and I’m 36 years old. I’ve been friends with the band and Seymour family for some time now. Last year (2009) I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and thought my life was over. Thanks to the support of my family, Whiskey Basin and families, and their fabulous Seven Sundays CD, I got through all my chemo, down days and sleepless nights. The band and family members provided me with so much prayer and inspiration to keep me going. I don’t recall ever missing a show unless I was in the hospital for some reason, and that broke my heart.”
“I AM NOW CANCER FREE as of 1/6/2010 and proud of myself - but most of all, having the Whiskey Basin family by my side. The last treatment I’ve had to complete was 33 days of radiation, Monday through Friday. Every day. Even going through that didn’t stop me from enjoying a show or a Whiskey Basin Party. They’ve seen my wounds and what I’ve endured and conquered, yet they always seem to help relieve my pain. They are my true inspiration. Luv ya.
Come to a show, buy a CD, meet the band and you’ll understand what I mean.”
Susan,
we can’t tell you how touched we are by this letter and yes, your struggle has been at times an uphill battle - we will always be there to help push you up that last step to the top of the hill if you need us.

One of our good friends, Susan, got hit with a something very serious and life-affecting - but she fought back. Now, she is CANCER-FREE, and we plan to give her one hell of a show this weekend to celebrate it!
